Crayon Art As-Seen-On Whatever

Have you heard of Pinterest yet? It is the latest internet bookmarking craze going on right now. I seriously can't get enough of it and I have been seeing some other blogs doing a weekly cap of their favorite pins and never one to pass up a fad I decided I need to jump on this bandwagon before it passes me by.

So enter the new Truly Noted Pin Of The Week series. I dont think I "pin" enough to do a whole round-up of items, but one super awesome thing I pinned sounds just right for me (don't want to go overboard- and it is so easy to do). This week I decided on this super colorful and bright crayon artwork idea which I totally love and hope to recreate at some point in the future (maybe when E is old enough to appreciate it and join in on the fun).

That is what is so great about Pinterest- you can catalog all of the cool inspirations and how-to's you run across on the internetz and hang on to them in one place- categorized however you like even. And other people can see your pins and if they like them they can re-pin them to their own boards and thus the virus is formed. I have to say it is a little ego-boost when I get those little emails saying so-and-so has re-pinned my pin. It reaffirms that maybe I really do have good taste!

This morning was my turn to get up with the baby so my husband could sleep in. At 6:40 'the alarm' went off and by 7 I was browsing the front page of Etsy and there, staring me in the face was this gorgeous purse by My Mom's Knitting.

Of course it's green, and you know me and green. This would be the perfect Spring accessory- warm and cozy knit to ward off the chilly Spring air (I am in VT after all), but a nice lush green to remind me of where the season is going. Love that polka dot ribbon too.

Today, while waiting in line at the post office, I spotted a poster with the 2011 stamps on them. These ones, called 'Garden of Love', really caught my eye. I actually think I like them better than the 'Wedding' ones and since they are the 'forever' stamps I will have to stock up!

Ridiculously adorable gingerbread houses perched on hot chocolate mugs! I mean seriously, I need to make these right. now. Except my Christmas craftiness is just about out and with the big day only four days away what is a girl to do?



I guess I will just have to file these away for next year and hope I remember in time. So many projects! I just might have to start around Halloween to really get it all done...

I Heart Thursday

I know it's been a while since I have done one of these, but today I happened to be browsing through some of my favorite Etsy sellers and I reminded myself of this amazing shop, Piper & Paisley! They make the coolest hats.

The Color Purple & Providence Performing Arts Center

This past weekend I had the pleasure of going to visit my Mom in Rhode Island. My Mom moved there a little over a year ago and it has been fun to have a new place to explore and get to know. Especially since she is very close to Providence and there is a ton of stuff there that we don't have up here in Vermont, or in the White Mountain region of New Hampshire which is where I grew up and my Mom previously resided.


One of the great things in Providence is the Performing Arts Center- a gorgeous restored old theatre originally built in the 1920's. We went to see Fiddler On The Roof there on Valentine's Day and it was amazing. The architecture of the theatre alone is entertaining and I had a hard time keeping my eyes off the walls and ceilings to watch the show. (Not to say the show wasn't amazing, because it was, and it was my first time seeing Fiddler.)



When my Mom told me they were going to have The Color Purple showing at the end of May I insisted that we get tickets. Although I have never read the book (I really need to get on that!) the movie has been a favorite of mine for a long time. So as a combined Mothers Day and Birthday present to ourselves we went. My Mom managed to score some amazine seats too! Look how close we are to the stage!


I managed to sneak in a few photos. They don't really allow cameras into the theatre, but I made sure to only snap some shots between acts and before the play. Plus I didnt use my flash so I couldn't bother anyone or draw attention to myself. The image above is the curtain that hid the stage before the show and during intermission. It was made to look like an old piece of paper on which Celie (the main character) had written a letter to God. The play was awesome! So if you ever have a chance to go, I highly recommend it! (Even if you do end up crying a million times)

I Heart Thursday (oops I guess Friday!)

So I have been slacking a bit on the I Heart Thursday- but it's ok, I have been busy, and this is just supposed to be fun anyway. As my favorite bumper sticker saying goes (for Ben & Jerry's ice cream, no less- yummm) 'If it's not fun why do it?'. I agree whole heartedly.



Anyway, back to what I heart today and, well, every Spring. More specifically, every May. Lilacs have always been sononomous with May, Memorial Day Weekend, and then my birthday which always seems to fall within Memorial Day weekend or close enough. I used to joke when I was a kid that the Memorial Day parades and dances were for my birthday. Of course, now I am well aware of the significance of Memorial Day and have grown out of such selfish thoughts.



But lilacs have always seemed like they were mine. I have always loved their light purple color, tiny little flowers all clustered together in masse, and the delicate perfume that leaks from them. You only have to pass within a few feet from a lilac bush to catch a sniff of it. They have always seemed to peak in bloom right around my birthday so many a birthday celebration table of mine has been decorated with them.

To me they are innocence and they whisper to me of a simpler time when I had not a care in the world, and my whole life in front of me. They are the beginning of Summer, the almost-end of school, and the start of the next year of my life.



I love that the house we own already had several large lilac bushes around it. Some are huge. Like this one. I spent yesterday afternoon cutting some to place all around my house and the smell is better than any potpourri, candle, or incense.



I hope that all of you have a great Memorial Day weekend and you take some time to stop and smell the lilacs.

I have to admit that I almost forgot about my promise last week, until I came across this hunk of fabulousness. How cool are these stone shaped cushions! Or couches, or benches or whatever you want to call them. They don't necessarily fit into a category, which is what is so great about them. I could see them in a rustic post-and-beam as much as a modern eco-home. For a girl that loves nature, such as myself, they make for perfect casual seating. Made by Smarin Design, in France, they are only available in a handful of stores in the US and mostly in California at that. Which means they are probably pretty pricy- but a girl can dream right?

Her Morning Elegance

I saw this video today for the first time- apparently it has been making it's way around the web, but I thought I would share it here. The concept is so fresh and original- with most music videos rehashing the same storyline, hyped-up imagery, and half naked girls I loved the simplicity and beauty showcased here. And the song is pretty good too!
